Serviceable areas for mobile units
Summary
Section titled “Summary”If you run a van, Torqueflow needs to know roughly where it goes. Settings > Serviceable areas is where you build that list: the postcode areas your mobile service could cover. It is deliberately a short list, not your whole country.
Everything else about mobile service is built on it. Coverage bands group these areas so you can price them. Online booking checks a customer’s postcode against them. Get this list right first and the rest follows.
Prerequisites
Section titled “Prerequisites”- At least one bay marked as a mobile unit. See Managing bays.
- Your depot postcode set in organisation settings, if you want to seed the list by radius. You can pick areas by hand without it.
Seed the list from your depot
Section titled “Seed the list from your depot”- Go to Settings > Serviceable areas.
- Select Add by radius.
- Enter a radius in miles or kilometres.
- Select Preview areas. Torqueflow shows how many areas fall within that distance and which regions they sit in.
- Check the summary, then select Add areas.
The radius measures from your depot’s postcode area, not your exact address, so treat it as a starting point rather than a precise boundary. If you overshoot, Undo this seed puts it back.
Add areas by hand
Section titled “Add areas by hand”- Select Add areas.
- Search for a postcode area, or expand a region to see what is in it.
- Tick the areas you could cover. Select all in adds a whole region at once.
- Select Add areas to save them.
Areas already on your list show as Added and are not duplicated.
Trim the list
Section titled “Trim the list”Remove anything you would not realistically drive to. A shorter, honest list makes the coverage check useful. A list padded with areas you would refuse just means turning customers down after they have booked.
Set your area templates
Section titled “Set your area templates”The page carries a suggested callout surcharge and travel time. These are templates only. They pre-fill a new van’s figures when you assign a band, and nothing more. They are never quoted to a customer and never appear on an invoice. The figures that count are the per-van ones on Coverage bands.
Expected Outcome
Section titled “Expected Outcome”- A curated list of postcode areas your mobile service could cover.
- Something for coverage bands to group and price.
- The foundation the online booking coverage check works from.
- This list alone does not switch mobile booking on. You also need to answer “Where do your mobile units go?” on a mobile unit’s settings, and build at least one coverage band. See Coverage bands and callout charges.
- Postcode area, not full postcode. Torqueflow works at the area level (RG1, DG7), not the full postcode. It is deliberately coarse, because a van’s coverage is a rough shape rather than a precise line.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”Problem: “Add areas within a radius” is not available. Cause: Torqueflow could not work out a postcode area to measure from. Fix: The page tells you which of these it is. Add your depot postcode in organisation settings, or pick areas by hand. Some countries do not have radius seeding yet.
Problem: I previewed a radius, then the confirm step asked me to preview again. Cause: Your depot postcode area changed between previewing and confirming. Fix: Preview again so you can see the areas before adding them.
Problem: I ticked areas but the count did not go up. Cause: They were already on your list. Fix: Nothing to do. The list will not duplicate an area.
Problem: The area reference data has not loaded. Cause: The postcode reference pack for your country is not in place. Fix: Contact us. It is not something you can fix from settings.
