Customising the Job Card

The job card lets every technician set up the layout to suit how they work. You can reorder the tab pills along the top, pick a default tab the card opens on, and choose where the pill bar sits (top, bottom, or down the left edge). All preferences are saved per technician and apply to every job card you open after that.

  • You are signed in with a technician account.
  • A job card is open at /my-jobs/{id} for the in-place reorder, or any page if you use the preferences gear icon.
  1. Open any job card. The pill bar is the row of tabs along the top (Tasks, Parts, Findings, AI, Messages, Media, Vehicle, History, Time).
  2. Press and hold any pill for about half a second (500ms). The pill bar enters edit mode - the pills wiggle and a green Done button appears on the right.
  3. Drag a pill left or right by its grip handle to move it. Release to drop it in place.
  4. When you are happy, tap Done. The new order saves and edit mode ends.
  5. To exit without saving the latest drag, just tap anywhere outside the pill bar.
  1. On the job card, tap the gear icon in the header to open the Preferences dialog.
  2. The dialog has three sections: pill bar position, default tab, and tab order.
  1. Choose where the pill bar sits relative to the job content:
    • Top - across the top of the content (the default).
    • Bottom - across the bottom, easier to reach with one hand on a phone.
    • Left - down the left edge, a vertical rail. Best on a tablet or desktop, less useful on a phone.
  2. Tap a position. The change saves immediately and applies to every job card.
  1. Pick which tab the job card opens on by default. Options include any of the nine tabs, plus Remember last tab which reopens whichever tab you had open the last time you closed a job.
  2. The change saves as soon as you select it.
  1. The tab order section shows every tab as a draggable row with a grip handle.
  2. Drag rows up and down to reorder. The order is your preferred order across every job card you open.
  3. Tap Save order when you are done. A spinner shows briefly while it saves.
  1. At the bottom of the preferences dialog is a Reset to default button.
  2. Tap it to restore the original tab order, position (top), and default tab. This is per-technician - it does not affect anyone else.
  • Long-pressing a pill enters edit mode with a clear Done button.
  • Dragging a pill and releasing places it in the new spot. Tapping outside without dragging exits edit mode.
  • The gear icon opens a preferences dialog with three sections: position, default tab, and tab order.
  • Your preferences apply to every job card you open from that point on, on any device.
  • Reset puts everything back to defaults without affecting other technicians.

Long-pressing the pill bar does not enter edit modeYou released too early - the press needs to be about half a second.Try again, holding for slightly longer.
I cannot find the gear iconThe header is in compact mode and the icon is tucked away.Scroll the job card content up so the full header is visible.
The Left pill bar position looks cramped on my phoneLeft rail is designed for tablets and desktop, not phone screens.Switch back to Top or Bottom on phone. The hint below the position picker reminds you of this.
My preferences did not saveA network blip stopped the request.Reopen the preferences dialog and check the setting. If it is wrong, set it again - it should save on the second try.
Reset wiped a custom order I wanted to keepReset has no undo.Re-do the reorder from the preferences dialog or by long-pressing pills on a job card.
  • Preferences are stored per technician on your account, so opening the system on a new device picks them up automatically.
  • The Remember last tab default is useful if you tend to flip-flop between two tabs (e.g. Tasks and Parts) on different jobs - it picks up where you left off.
  • The pill bar also shows badges (small numbers or red dots) for tabs with unread messages or new findings. Reordering does not affect badges.
  • Requires the my_jobs.access capability.
  • No special capability needed beyond technician access - every technician can set their own preferences.
